Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia
Governor Nathan Deal has proclaimed the week of February 4th as Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia.
The goal is to encourage everyone to be more aware of severe weather safety measures and to participate in events that week.
Severe Weather Awareness Week highlights a different threat to get ready for each day. This year’s observations are:
- Monday, Feb. 3 – Family Preparedness/NOAA Weather Radio Day
- Tuesday, Feb. 4 – Thunderstorm Safety
- Wednesday, Feb. 5 – Tornado Safety (and statewide tornado drill)
- Thursday, Feb. 6 – Lightning Safety
- Friday, Feb. 7 – Flood Safety
The state has also launched a website called Ready Georgia to help people understand the importance of emergency preparedness and provide tools to be prepared for a weather emergency. Check Ready Georgia frequently for weather related updates.
