A Day Trip to Providence Canyon
If you're anything like me, every now and then you just need to get out and enjoy nature. I recently had one of these moments but we only had time for a day trip. My husband and I had always talked about going to Providence Canyon but had never done so that's what we decided to do. It was a beautiful clear Sunday - a perfect day to go!
Providence Canyon is in Lumpkin, GA and just a short drive from Columbus. It is nicknamed "Little Grand Canyon" and is a testament to the power of man’s influence on the land. There are gullies as deep as 150 feet that were caused by poor farming practices during the 1800s. Even though it was created by mismanagement of the land, it is beautiful and definitely not something you would expect to see in Georgia.
Brett and I explored all 9 canyons but we liked 4, 5 and 8 the best. The trails are wet and you have to cross creeks so be sure to wear waterproof shoes. We were able to explore all of the canyons and walk around the rim for a little while in less than 3 hours. We took our time and took lots of photos. Here are some of my favorites...
