How to Prevent a Washing Machine Leak

When a washing machine overflows or leaks it can cause a lot of damage, especially if it's located above a finished room. To help prevent floods...

Install a drain pan under the washer.
Inspect supply hoses regularly and to be proactive, you should replace them every 3-5 years.
You may also want to install a valve that automatically shuts off the water when the machine is not in use.
Metal braided hoses can leak also and may give the homeowner a false sense of security.
